When the Post Office attempt to deliver a parcel and find the premises unoccupied they should leave a card telling you that there is a parcel awaiting collection at your local sorting office. We have found, on a number of occasions, that the card is either not left in the first place or missed by the householder. (This especially happens in a block of flats with a communal front door). Consequently the parcel is often just sitting on the shelf at the sorting office awaiting collection.
